Girths are used to secure the saddle on the horse’s back. Sometimes, girths are also used for adjusting the saddle’s position. Dressage Girths are significantly different than show jumping girths. A wide variety of girths are available. Some offer elastic on both ends. Belly guard girths are used for show jumping. Hunters use special girths that are lined with fleece.
Girth sizes vary from 46″ to 54″ for show jumping. Dressage girths are much shorter, ranging from 22″ to 28″. Dressage Saddles are cut much longer and have longer billets, hence the shorter girths.
